This project involved the redesign and renovation of a 60 sq.m. penthouse apartment located in Kavouri, Attica, on the top floor of a 1970s residential building. The primary challenge was to reinterpret the space both functionally and aesthetically to serve as a contemporary summer retreat, while fully showcasing its stunning panoramic views over the Saronic Gulf.
The architectural approach combines urban elegance with distinct coastal living references. The layout was completely reconfigured to maximize natural light and create uninterrupted sightlines towards the sea from all key areas of the apartment. Large openings, semi-transparent partitions, and an open-plan concept allow the gaze to travel freely through the space, enhancing the connection with the surrounding seascape.
Warmth and Timelessness in Materiality
Natural materials such as wood and marble were selected to add warmth and timelessness. Earthy, sandy tones combined with accents of turquoise and sea green reinforce the light, summery atmosphere. Crafted wooden details and tactile textures celebrate materiality and craftsmanship, creating an environment of simplicity and calm.
Functional Living with a Playful Twist
Special emphasis was placed on the functional optimization of the apartment: smart storage solutions, multipurpose furniture, and a seamless spatial flow meet both daily living needs and the flexibility required for hosting during the summer season.
The WC was designed with an emphasis on uniqueness and whimsy, featuring white and green tiles, fuchsia grout, a colorful washbasin, and artistic details, offering an unexpected experience.
Architectural Transformation on the Athenian Coast
The penthouse in Kavouri is a prime example of architectural intervention that respects the historical character of the existing building while reintroducing the space in a contemporary context — in harmony with its landscape, its seaside setting, and modern living standards.
